Oliver & Rat Using a pet sitter is not inexpensive. Is it worth it? Take these things into consideration:
  • Your pet can remain in the home environment s/he is used to, which means less stress for your pet (and for you!).
  • As a professional pet sitter, Courteous Canines is bonded and insured.
  • Jill has been feeding her own cats a raw diet for some time and is comfortable following a raw diet regimen or other special dietary needs for pets in her care.
  • While checking on your house, Courteous Canines can also collect mail, pick up newspapers, and turn lights on or off. These simple things can be deterrents to would-be thieves.
  • Piece of mind knowing that if something were to happen to your pet or home, you would have a competent, professional person available to contact you and keep an eye on things until you are able to return home.
  • Courteous Canines will take care of exotics and small pets in your home - saving you the trouble of finding a facility that will board your rare pet. (Sorry, no snakes!)

Is Courteous Canines Right for My Dog?

Smidgen My dog goes to day care a couple of days a week; he doesn't need a dog walker.
Doggie day care is a great way to let your dog get socialization and wear himself out at the same time. However, your dog might appreciate a mid day break whenever he's not at day care. Weekends, the dog has you, certain days a week the dog gets to go to day care, so those days at home alone might be really quiet by contrast.

Becker My dog got turned down for/kicked out of dog day care; I don't know if she would do well with a dog walker, either.
Some dogs, like people, aren't cut out for the hustle and bustle of a busy day care. That doesn't make them bad dogs, just dogs that need a little less stimulation in their lives. Walks with an experienced dog walker can provide some mild stimulation and exercise without sending your dog into overload. I meet every dog before committing to walking her and will never push the dog to do things that she's not ready for.

Siris My dog is TERRIBLE on a leash! Who would want to walk him?
In addition to having two strong Labradors of my own, I have also served as a foster home for Lab rescue and I am a professional dog trainer. Most of the dogs I meet have very little, if any, leash manners. My training background, combined with the use of a Gentle Leader head collar, may help to make your dog more enjoyable to walk.

Kaya My dog just lies around all day when I'm gone. A dog walker would be wasted on her!
A dog that lies around all day may be more in need of a walk than you think! A 30 minute mid day walk can help improve your dog's physical fitness and a fit dog is a happy dog. Even elderly or ill dogs will benefit from light daily exercise to keep joints and muscles moving. Sights, scents and sounds on a walk can mentally exercise your dog. Rather than sleeping off boredom, you dog can spend the day sleeping off the excitement of a nice walk.

Minie Will having a dog walker cure my dog's separation anxiety?
If your dog has true separation anxiety, only medication and/or behavior modification can treat your dog. However, if your dog gets destructive or barky during the day while you're gone, the additional exercise and stimulation that a dog walker can provide may reduce those problems.
